Vernon H. Bell

Vernon H. Bell Sr., age 90, of Santee , South Carolina passed on Saturday, April 7, 2018 He was born on April 21, 1927 in Oconee County, South Carolina to Lawrence and Alma Davis Bell. He was preceded in death by his wives, Lavinia Ard Bell and Roselind Landau Bell. He spent the last 9 years of his life in love with Mary Brittain. He was the Owner and Operator of the Piggly Wiggly in Holly Hill, South Carolina, for 40 years. Vernon was a true Southern Gentleman who loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. He also enjoyed softball, fishing, and Carolina Gamecocks sports. One of 12 children, Vernon has 3 surviving siblings, Clarissa Bell Bradford, Betsy Hall, and Bishop Bell. He is also survived by his children: Cathy McWaters (husband Johnny, deceased) and Vernon 'Rocky' Haskell Bell Jr. and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren: Codie McWaters Hood (Mark), Roberts McWaters, Samuel McWaters (Angela), Jonathan McWaters (deceased) Casey Bell (Tyrone), and Morgan Bell (Hunter); and 13 great grandchildren; and his caregiver, Sadie Brown. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1st Baptist Church of Holly Hill, 8455 Old State Rd, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
