Thelma Hewitt Baker

Thelma Hewitt Baker, 85 of Harleyville, South Carolina, wife of George Baker of 61 years passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Born on March 23, 1939, in Hemingway, South Carolina Thelma was the daughter of the late John Albert Hewitt and Hattie Adelle (Della) Hewitt

Our Mom loved all the children! And I do mean all of them! She was co-owner of Carrousel Day Care in Goose Creek for many years. She would spoil those children every day. Our Mom would worry about anyone she knew or that you knew was having a struggle. She was the most loving and generous person you would ever meet. Mom also had a spunky streak when the need would arise. If you were in the Mims Academy family, she would have had a hand in raising you and fed you a meal or two in the cafeteria. Thelma loved working in her garden and fishing. She enjoyed canning food and sharing with her family and friends. Thelma took pride in both of her grandsons and enjoyed watching them in all of their athletic and school activities.

Thelma is survived by her husband George L Baker of the home; daughters Lynn Baker of North Charleston and Charlotte B Siau (Donald) of Harleyville. She has two grandsons: Andrew Siau (Megan) of Summerville and Ethan Siau of Harleyville. Thelma was one of ten children raised in rural Hemingway: two brothers, John (Junior) Edward Hewitt and William (Willie) Carlisle Hewitt and sisters Barbara H. Yon and Mary H Cole (Wayne); sister-in-law Annie and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ralph Lee Hewitt, Jacob (JC) Clarence Hewitt (Jeanette), Robert Paul Hewitt (Dora Bell), sisters Lottie (Ida) H Foxworth (Carlisle) and Hattie Adelle Cannon (Freddie); sister-in- laws Lizzie Bell Hewitt and Teresa Hewitt and a brother-in-law Oliver Yon.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 12PM at Harleyville Cemetery, South Railroad Ave.
