Mrs. Sara W. Bull HOLLY HILL - Sara Mildred Watkins Bull, 89, of the Providence Community, widow of Roger Leroy Bull, her husband of over 50 years, died peacefully at her home January 11, 2012. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bull, William Bull, George "Buddy" Watkins, Dr. Michael Porter Bull, Dahl Shuler, Walter Dantzler, John Daniel "Danny" Hutto, Barry Hutto, Elliott Shuler, Robert Bochette, and Dave Shuler. Mrs. Bull was a native of Hartsville. She was May Queen at Lander College where she received her degree. She did her practice teaching and taught in the Greenwood School District until she was married in 1943. Mrs. Bull taught in Glenn Bernie, Maryland while her husband was in service. After moving in 1946 to the Providence Community, Holly Hill, she taught in Holly Hill School District, sharing her love for music from school to school. Mrs. Bull taught at Providence Elementary School, Dantzler Elementary School, Providence Primary Kindergarten, and earned her Master's Degree from SC State University to later become principal of Providence Primary School until her retirement. From the time she moved to Providence until her health prevailed, she was active in the Providence United Methodist Church, having served as choir director for over forty years. Mrs. Bull was a member of Belle Bennett Circle and the Women's Society of Christian Service. She held various offices in each of these. She shared her musical talent willingly, singing in numerous weddings, funeral services, in her beloved church, and many other occasions as well. She touched so many hearts with her beautiful voice and love of music. Mrs. Bull was known for always being a "bit tardy" to all functions, her love for watermelon, and her family. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Rebecca Bull, and a sister, Mrs. Daphne Howle. Surviving are her two sons, Dr. Steven Farrell (Rhonda Hutto) Bull of Isle of Palms and Holly Hill, and Dr. Douglas Middleton (Donna Cox) Bull of Columbia; four grandchildren, Brian Daniel (Carissa Cantrell) Bull of Cumming, Ga., Farrell Hutto Bull of Buckhead, Ga., Madison Elizabeth Bull of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Austin Middleton Bull of Clemson, SC; two great grandsons, Braylan and Kholson Bull of Cumming, Ga.; sister, Mrs. Katherine Hill of Hartsville; a brother, George (Lib) Watkins of Anderson, SC; her forever-friends, like- a- sister, and brother in law, Mr. Mrs. Porter (Newell Jeffers) Bull of the Providence Community, a dear sister-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Bull of the Providence Community; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by God's angels (her caregivers) who watched over her day and night for the family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Avinger Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Dr. Mrs. Steven Bull, 1900 Churchill Road, Holly Hill.
