Roy Carl Varner

Roy Carl Varner, 91 of Eutawville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Born on February 28, 1933 in Ridgeville, SC Roy was a son of the late Thelma Hill Varner and Edward Varner.

While serving in the army during the Korean War, he married his sweetheart during a "leave" then returned to finish his time of service to his country. Roy is known all around Holly Hill and Eutawville for opening and operating the Tastee Twirl in Eutawville as well as the Barn restaurant in Holly Hill. His secret recipe of batter fried chicken was unforgettable, and we often enjoyed that beyond the walls of his fast-food establishment as we gathered often on Sundays around the dinner table. Most of his working career he spent in the trucking industry. He retired from hauling fly ash; picking up at Westvaco to deliver to Holcim. Roy wasn't satisfied to stay "parked" so he subcontracted with Key West boats and Scout boats transporting water craft all along the east coast. When that did not keep him busy enough, he drove a bus for Capital Tours. For many years he drove the church bus at FBCE for mission trips, ladies’ retreats, and senior day trips. Finally, in his mid 80's he decided to nestle down at home and do some swamp fishing as well as four wheeling through the deep underbrush to get to his favorite fishing hole. When he could lay aside his tendency to pinch pennies, he enjoyed boating, pontooning, and traveling with his bride, but mostly he loved salvaging anything and everything while tinkering around the house from one project to another.... Keeping a lot of broken pieces "just in case". PS... Patsy says if you need any junk, come on by!

Roy is preceded in death by his parents as well as his youngest daughter Patti.

Roy is survived by his wife of seventy years, Patricia Varner; his children: Tim Varner (Zelda), Dawn Cercopely (Mark), and Eddie Varner; Grandchildren: Brandy Cercopely, April Fortier (Randy), Justin Varner, Benji Varner (Ashley), Meagan Shea (Chris), and Andrew Varner (Sarah); Great grands: Nicholas, (Holly) Sebastian and Claire Blevins, Cait Fortier, Everette, Kate, and Hannah Varner, Aurora, Milo and Jane Shea, and Isla Varner; two great great grands: Kane and Noelle Blevins
