Pliny Hughes Shropshier

Pliny Hughes Shropshier, 92 of Vance, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Born on August 25, 1932 in Spartanburg, Pliny was a son of the late Beulah Hughes Shropshier and Pliny Shropshier.

Pliny grew up as a blue-collar hard worker. At a young age he attended school during the day and worked in the cotton mill at night. At the age of 17 he had his parents sign for his to join the military.

Pliny served his country proudly in the Korean War. After the military he worked for 34 years at the Savannah River Site. Pliny retired at the lake where he loved to fish, hunt, work on everything, shag, and watch Dale Earnhardt drive a race car. Pliny was a true honest friend to all.

Pliny is survived by his grandsons Caleb Shropshier (Brittany) and Avery Shropshier; daughter in law Donna Sandler and great grandchildren Sawyer, Isla and Piper. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Drema Shropshier; his parents; a son Barry Shropshier, and five siblings Harry, Madge, Vera, Idalene, Gladys and Carolyn.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 3-4PM at Avinger Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 4PM in the chapel.
