Mary Krell Avinger

Mary Krell Avinger, 105, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Santee, went home to be with our Lord on November 11, 2024. 

Born in West Columbia on April 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter Edward Rhyne and the late Mamie Lineberger Rhyne. 

Mary was a graduate of Columbia Bible College. She was a member of the Elloree United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over thirty years. She proudly served on the Board of Directors of Santee Cooper Resort. Mary enjoyed golf, playing into her early 90s, and was a past president of the Santee Cooper Resort Ladies Golf Association. She was very active in the community throughout the years as a member of the Evergreen Garden Club, several Bible studies, and a canasta group. 

She was preceded death by her first husband, Roy A. Krell, Sr., her second husband, A. Norman Avinger, Jr., her daughter, Kathy Krell, her sister Caroline Bowdler, and her brothers Harold and Edward Rhyne. 

Surviving are her daughter, Cindy Dantzler (Ben) of Edisto Island; stepson, Roy A. Krell, Jr., of Dahlonega, GA; stepson, A. Norman Avinger III (Carol) of Anderson; stepson, John O. Avinger (Debbie) of Mount Pleasant; granddaughter, Ashley Wright (Brooks) of Mount Pleasant; grandson, Ben Dantzler III (Nora) of Charleston; granddaughter, Kasey Goodwin (Michael) of Dorchester; step-grandson, Mauldin Avinger (Caroline) of Greenville; step-grandson, Frank Avinger (Carmen) of Mount Pleasant; five great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. 

The funeral service will be held at the Elloree Methodist Church on November 15, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Elloree Methodist Church.
