Julius Lonnie "Buster" Parler Jr., age 92, of Holly Hill, devoted husband of Carolyn Breeland Parler of 71 years entered eternal rest Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Magnolia's Assisted Living in Santee. Buster was born April 8, 1932 to the late Sallie Pendarvis Parler and Julius Lonnie Parler, Sr. He attended Holly Hill public schools, graduated from Palmetto Military Academy, and attended Clemson University.
Buster enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard at the age of 16 and was a dedicated and decorated member of the Guard for 39 years, advancing to the rank of Colonel. For his devoted service, he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 1988 by then Governor Richard Riley. Buster had a successful career at Holly Hill Lumber Company/Georgia Pacific serving many capacities and retiring as Regional Human Resources Manager. Following retirement, he served as a municipal court judge for the Town of Holly Hill.
Buster’s affiliations include membership in the Washington Light Infantry and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a lifelong member of Holly Hill Methodist Church where he served on various committees and was a member of the Chapel Sunday School Class. He was also instrumental in providing technical support for stage productions for the Holly Hill Little Theater.
In addition to his parents, Buster was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lonnie Parler and a sister, Sarah Parler Watkins. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughter Lynn Parler Tindal (Rusty) of Moncks Corner; son David Parler (Lisa) of Gastonia, North Carolina; grandson Will Tindal (Shelby) of Pinopolis; great grandsons, Tripp and Ford Tindal; a sister June Parler Wynn of Jacksonville, Florida, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services for Buster will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 2PM at Holly Hill Methodist Church followed by an interment at Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
