Jean Martin Gasque (Jeannie), 67, of Chapin, SC passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 16, 2024.
Jeannie was born on January 3, 1957 to the late Jack Ryan Martin and Jean Griffin Martin Bell. She grew up in Summerton, South Carolina where she met the love of her life, John. They were married in 1977 and moved to Winnsboro, then Holly Hill, where they raised their two children, Allison and Martin.
Jeannie dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse and caregiver, embodying compassion and selflessness in her work and daily life. She spent her career caring for her community as a public health nurse and traveled to remote areas to bring care for those who otherwise would not have access to health care. However, Jeannie’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her profession. When her mother, Jean, was battling brain cancer, Jeannie rarely left her side. She was fiercely devoted to John and cared for him around the clock through his many years of illness.
Jeannie’s grandchildren were the light of her life. She found immense joy in being their “Gigi” and burst with pride whenever she spoke of their milestones and accomplishments.
Jeannie’s smile and laugh could light up any room. She truly was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was fiercely loyal to those she loved. Her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of so many.
Jeannie is preceded in death by her husband, John. She leaves behind her children, Allison Parler (David) and Martin Gasque (Elizabeth), grandchildren Elli, Lilly, Grace and Griffin. She also leaves behind her brother, Ryan Martin, as well as countless family members and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held January 3, 2025 from 4-7 at the home of her dear friend, Mic Singletary, 173 Broughton Dr. Eutawville, SC 29048. A memorial service will be held January 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church where Jeannie was a member. Memorials may be made to Lake Murray Presbyterian Church or SCOA Cares.
