MURRELLS INLET - James Eugene McNair, 78, of Murrells Inlet, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in a Beaufort nursing home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Holly Hill with Rev. Marshall Locke and Rev. Earl Behr officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. before the service at the church. James was born in Conway, a son of the late Eugene King McNair and Mildred Allen McNair. He graduated from Conway High School and attended Erskine College. James served in the Army and later graduated from Southern Tech in Marietta, GA. He owned and operated the former McNair's in Holly Hill, and was a nursing home administrator until declining health. James liked sports and especially enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Holly Hill, where he was a former deacon and choir member. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Gainey McNair; and a nephew, Harry Dean Branton, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Mary Moore McNair of Columbia; daughter, Susan (Billy) Seckinger of Beaufort; son, Stephen (Jennifer) McNair of Lexington; step-daughter, Marnie (Richard) Clayton of Columbia; step-son, Jay (Kim) Frye of Columbia; sisters, Norma (Harold) Branton of Myrtle Beach, and Brenda (Randall) Cox of Aynor; brother, Bobby (Olene) McNair of Myrtle Beach; former mother-in-law, Helen Gainey of Port Royal; and grandchildren, Hailey, Ellie, and Garrett Seckinger, Austin, Alex, and Aidan McNair, Mary-Riley, Heyward and Emma Clayton, and Katie Wallace Frye.
