EUTAWVILLE - James C. Lewis, 73, of Eutawville, husband of Betty Lewis, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be 12 noon Monday in Beaufort National Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born in Washington County, Va., a son of the late James H. Lewis and Margie R. Buchannan Lewis. He was retired from the US Navy serving on Minesweepers, Destroyers, and Special Operation Ships. Mr. Lewis was a Vietnam veteran and was a member of the VFW and the Fleet Reserve. A retired construction safety manager, he enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his five grandchildren whom he dearly loved. Surviving in addition to his wife; a daughter, Rhonda (Derrick) Rogers of Lebanon, Ohio; a son, James (Michelle) Lewis of Jupiter, Fla.; a brother, John (Brenda) Lewis of Bowman; sisters, Madeline Wagner of Richmond, Va., Charlene (Phil) Manis of Tenn., Amanda "Dot" Whitley of Roanoke, Va., Brenda (Kenny) Roop of Glade Springs, Va.; five grandchildren, Corey Lewis, Kelsy Rogers, Kobey Rogers, Brianna Lewis, and Ashton Lewis, and a long-time special friend, Tony Tiemann of Eutawville. Visitation will be at the family home after the service Sunday.
