Howard S. West, 92, husband of Francine Hanks West, of the Providence Community died October 15, 2018 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11 o’clock Thursday, October 18th at Providence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Justin Ritter and Rev. Cooper Stonestreet will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Avinger Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Robert West, William West, Woody West, Darrell West, Jackson West and David Earl Fersner. .
Mr. West was born in Orangeburg County a son of the late Earl and Lillian Shuler West. He was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge of Orangeburg. Howard and two brothers were owners and operators of West Brothers Farm. He was an avid farmer and sold produce at the State Farmers Market for over 75 years. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by siblings Bryan, Gene, Raymond, Heyward and Leon West, Helen Fersner and brother in law, Lamar Fersner. Survivors are his wife of 53 years; a daughter Alice (Ward) Avinger, Holly Hill; a son Frank (Lisa) West, St. George; grandchildren Abbie West, Trey and Hanks Avinger; and a brother, Everett “Cap” West of the Providence Community; sisters in law, Norma West, Annette West, Lois West, Gayle West and Marian West.
Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church or Grove Park Hospice.
