Gregory (Greg) Kinard Wiles, 69 of Holly Hill, South Carolina, husband of Jan Wiles passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024.
Born on December 23, 1954 in Orangeburg, Greg was the son of the late Janet Waddill Wiles and Paul Kinard Wiles.
Greg grew up in the family business, Wiles Tire and Muffler Service that was started by his father over 60 years ago. He was always ready to take care of his customers with a smile, and a smile was often returned after they saw all the paraphernalia hanging on the office walls.
When he knew he would have to close the business due to his declining health, he delayed the decision as long as he could. His generous and overly concerned heart ached for his customers. He was most concerned about his older customers who frequently came to him for advice not only about their tires, but also other areas such as home repairs, mechanical concerns, and general maintenance. Greg served the Holly Hill community as the chief of the fire department for many years. After earning his EMT certification, he became one of the earliest members of the Holly Hill rescue squad.
Just like his father, Greg had a love of hunting and fishing. He was fortunate enough to join Pa in many saltwater and freshwater tournaments. Not only did Greg fish in the open waters, he also enjoyed scuba diving. Another passion shared with his father was cooking. They were known in the area as the "go to" for catering dinners, even up to 500 people. From BBQ sauces to pork skins, whatever Greg did he mastered the taste. Cooking was second nature for him, and many people were able to enjoy his talents.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Janice Cauthen Wiles; his son Jason Wiles and daughter Virginia Schaefer (Alex); his grandchildren Amber Wiles, Ashten Wiles, Jayce Wiles, Brayden Schaefer and Bryson Schaefer; and his great-grandchildren Alexandria Miller, Penelope Northrop, Gabrielle Burnette, Valentine Burnette, and Onyx Northrop; sisters, Gayla Garrett and Laura Harris (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews. Sorrowfully, Greg was predeceased by his great-grandson Luxe Northrop.
