He graduated from Holly Hill High School where he was known to arrive on his horse, tying him up to a tree in the school yard. He was a hard worker from boyhood, holding down several different jobs at one time. Stories of the train depot, selling snow cones, working for Zaco, the cotton gin, the family store, the livery stable… abound. He followed his hometown sweetheart Carolyn Hart to Mars Hill College where he played baseball and graduated with an Associates Degree. He was granted Carolyn’s hand in marriage by her father Thomas Hart. They married June 10,1956 and were together for 63 years. Glenn cared for Carolyn so lovingly and devotedly until her passing, November 29, 2019.

Glenn and Carolyn were charter members of Covenant Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC. They raised their children with love and faith in the Lord and one another.Glenn retired from Bowater August 31, 1995. His scale house buddies were lifelong friends and very special to him.

He is survived by a son, David Breland (Sally); daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Al McIntosh; daughter, Julie Breland; two grandchildren, Jake and Faye McIntosh; and sister-in-law and her husband, Barbara and Burris Floyd. In the last few years of his life he often mentioned that he regretted not getting to know his many nieces, nephews, and their families better.
