Gerald Gene "Jerry" Berkey

Gerald Gene Berkey (Jerry), 87 of Santee, SC passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025. 

Born on January 22, 1938, in Hooverville PA, Jerry was a son of the late Curtis Berkey and Mabel Shaffer Berkey. 

Jerry is preceded in death by an infant son Timothy Kyle Berkey, daughter Melissa Lynn Berkey, brothers Milford Berkey, Rodger Berkey, sisters Connie Edmison, and Joyce Berkey. 

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Brenda Zeigenfuss Berkey; children Mitchell (Cheryl Galle), and Trina Berkey; three grandchildren Austin Berkey (Sarah Black), Paige Berkey, and Brett Berkey; siblings Norma Tremain (Robert), Imogene William, Ronald Berkey (Rhonda), Laura Cameron, Rodney Berkey (Nancy), and Sandy Law. 

Jerry graduated from Penn State University in 1959 with a B.S. in Agriculture and after graduating, served as a County Agricultural Agent in Carbon County, PA. In 1967, his passion for flying and sky diving in general aviation aircraft as a hobby led him to a long career as a pilot for TWA & American Airlines until he retired in 1991. He also served his country in the Army National Guard. He coached little league baseball and mentored young men in the boy scouts for many years. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed gardening, playing golf, boating, hunting, fishing, and helping anyone in need.

The service will be held March 8, 3:00 pm at Hope Lutheran Church at 10154 Old #6 Highway, Vance, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Lutheran Church, in Vance, SC.
