Holly Hill, SC - George B. Steelmon, age 88, of Holly Hill, SC, went to be with his Lord and Savior at home on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Born May 8, 1926, he was the son of the late George O'Dell and the late Jaime Vernell Steelmon of Columbus, Ga. George served in the United States Navy as a WWII veteran in the Pacific. After the war, he graduated from Emory University as a research and develop chemist. He worked for several national textile and chemical development corporations most recently for Exxon in Summerville, SC before retiring. He loved people. He enjoyed making ceramic angels for cancer charities as well as his lovable ceramic garden creatures. He was a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church, Holly Hill, SC and later attended New Hope United Methodist Church, Summerville, SC. George is predeceased by his wife, Frances Nichols Steelmon of over 30 years. He is survived by sons, Joel (Joy) of Holly Hill, SC; and son, Jonathan of Greenwood, SC; a brother, James and a sister, Dorothy Reynolds both of Columbus, GA; and grandchildren, Sumpter Anne Steelmon and Jonathan Andrew Steelmon III "Trae." A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at New Hope United Methodist Church, Summerville, SC.
