Eva Claire Furches

HOLLY HILL - Eva Claire Furches, 88, of Holly Hill, widow Joseph M. Furches, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Orangeburg. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Avinger Funeral Home with Rev. Cooper Stonestreet officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. Eva Claire was born September 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph Snowden Mitchum and Eva Dantzler Mitchum. She was adopted as an infant by the late Preston Whitfield Shuler and Orine Dantzler Shuler. She served as a volunteer for charitable organizations, her delight was working with children and the elderly. Her church work was always special. In addition to her parents and adoptive parents, she was preceded in death by her eight siblings, Dorothy Horger, Everett Mitchum, Effie Storie, Ernestine "Tenie" Matthews, John C. Mitchum, Catherine "Cassie" Senn, Samuel Mitchum, Sr., and twin brother, Kenneth Rast. Also, her adopted siblings, Rutledge "Rut" Shuler, Bernard "Nard" Shuler, Preston "Peb" Shuler, Hayes S. Shuler, and Doris S. Hall. Surviving are her daughter, Doris Hope Murray (Cal); granddaughter, Johanna Crider (Robin); great-granddaughter, Brice Crider, all of Holly Hill; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Eva Claire was a very simple and loving person. To know her was to love and respect her.
