CROSS - Ernest Joseph "E.J." Mims, 82, husband of the late Catherine Brownlee Mims, died Friday, October 17, 2104 at his home. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey White and Rev. Scott Eadie officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the CHURCH this Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. E.J. was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Ernest David Mims and Rosa Scott Mims. He was a graduate of Cross High School and was retired from Oneita Mills. EJ enjoyed deer hunting, playing golf, wood working and cutting grass. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Austin and a brother, Billy Mims. Surviving are daughters, Marilyn (Joe) Newberry of Bluffton, and Judy (Patrick) Mitchum of Cross; sisters, Louise (Allen) Murray of Cross, Frances Lowe, Mary Bessinger, and Dolly (Glen) Davis, all of N. Charleston, and Elva (Robert) Whitfield of Kansas; brother, Johnny (Gertrude) Mims of Cross; grandchildren, Chris (Monica) Smith, Pat (Brittany) Mitchum III and Jill (Marty) Bunch; great-grandchildren, Jackson Lee Smith, Trenton Laine Smith, Callie and Chloe Mitchum, Remington and Waylon Bunch; and caregiver, Karen Styles.
