RIDGEVILLE, SC - Mrs. Dena Chubb Grooms, 90, of Ridgeville, widow of Leland K. Grooms, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in a North Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Burr, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Grooms was born in Cross, a daughter of the late Jenkins Chubb and Mamie Mitchum Chubb. She was an active member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary and treasurer, member of the choir, and the Women's Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Lee Grooms; and a brother, Sherod Chubb. Surviving are sons, Charles J. (Chuck Graves) Grooms of Ridgeville, and L. Kenneth (Jackie) Grooms of Jamestown, Tenn.; sisters, Beatrice Myers and Shellie (Harold) Myers, both of Ridgeville, Nada Kizer of North Charleston and Thelma Miles of Holly Hill; grandchildren, Tara Lynn (Barry) Pash of Salem, Ohio, Christina Hackman of Harrison, Ohio, Kenneth (Beth) Grooms, Jr., Michael (Kim) Grooms, and Kelly (Tina) Grooms, all of Marshall, Ill.; and twelve great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill.
