Daniel Joseph (Danny) Rhode, Sr., 71, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, husband of Karen Capps Rhode, entered into eternal life at his home Saturday, January 22, 2022. Born on December 16,1950 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Danny was the son of the late Joe Smith Rhode and Ernestine Blewer Rhode.
Danny graduated from Holly Hill High School in 1969. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The Citadel in 1973. Danny served in the National Guard in the St. George unit. He retired from La Farge Cement Company. Danny was a member of Harmony Lodge 61 in St. George and of Zion United Methodist Church.
Danny had many dreams and aspirations in life. Some of those he was able to accomplish and some were left unfinished. Danny was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts in the late 70's. He was an author, storyteller, seeker of family lineage and historian, and held a wealth of knowledge on many topics with one of those being the Civil War. Danny was a lover of trains and would enjoy spending time in his train house. He loved to travel with his wife, Karen, and enjoyed their trips to the beach, the mountains, but most of all their cross country trip.
Danny was predeceased by his parents, and his first wife, Judy Murray Rhode.
Cherishing the memories of Danny are his loving wife, Karen Capps Rhode of Holly Hill; son, Joseph Rhode of Woodruff; step-son, Johnathan Drafts of Lexington; sister Connie (Charles) Serra of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Miles Rhode of Eutawville; sister-in-law, Pam (Flip) Perry of Summerville; many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 12-1PM at Avinger Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2PM at Rhode Memory Garden located at Zion United Methodist Church. Reverend Ronnie Brewer will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Michael Serra, Matthew Taylor, Jonathan McCormick, Paul Perry, Harmon Perry, and Britton Moorer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Danny's memory may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery or Build Fund, 1150 Zion Road, Dorchester, SC 29437.
