Mrs. Carolyn Murray Shuler, 81, of the Providence Community, Santee, widow of David P. "D.P." Shuler, Sr., died Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg. Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 7, 2011, 3 o'clock at the Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the Island Cemetery, North Providence. Friends may call at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill, from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Mac Shuler, Charlie Shuler, Walter Dantzler, Charlie Murray, Dahl Shuler, Otis Shuler, Howard Shuler and Lawton Brown, Doug Shuler, Jr. Mrs. Shuler was born in Holly Hill, January 10, 1930, a daughter of the late W. Marvin Murray and Effie Olivia Murray. She was a graduate of Holly Hill High School and spent her working years in clothing retail as a buyer for Belk Stores, and then later with the Village Shop of Holly Hill. An avid gardener, she passed to her children a love of things that grow. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church holding various offices within women's ministry and a choir member for more than 50 years. She is predeceased by a son, Jerry Shuler. Survivors include: a daughter, Olivia Shuler Carson, of Providence; a son, David P (Susan) Shuler, Jr., of Providence; daughter-in-law, Catherine Sharp Shuler, of St. George; a sister, Jeannette (George) Clark-Carmichael, of Grovetown, GA; a brother, Rut (Dotsie) Murray, of St. George; grandchildren, William Waters, Adam Waters, both of Providence, Olivia Shuler Burns, of Columbia, Charles David Shuler, of Clemson, and Mary Auburn Shuler, Presbyterian College; great-grandchildren, Thomas Miles Burns, Virginia Catherine Burns and Ella Rose Waters.
