Bettye Anne Bass Littlefield, affectionately known as "Grammy," passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in West Point, Georgia and raised in Lanett Alabama, Bettye's roots were humble, but her spirit was as vibrant as the flowers she loved. A kind, sweet, and wonderful woman, Bettye touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her warmth, generosity, and love for life. She had a special affection for cats, especially Clancy and Buttercup, who brought comfort and joy in her later years. Grammy held a deep passion for all sports, especially Auburn Football. She loved the Tigers so much that, during game time, she would refuse to answer the phone.
Bettye Anne Bass married Richard Burdette Littlefield on December 26, 1954, in Lanett, Alabama. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. In 1966, they moved to Holly Hill, SC, where they raised three beautiful daughters—Angie, Tenley, and Gretchen. Bettye thoroughly enjoyed her time working at the local radio station WKHJ1440 AM. She later found her true calling as a courier for Farmers and Merchants Bank, where she served faithfully for 30 years.
Bettye is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard (Dick). She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her three daughters: Angie (Ron) Hall, Tenley (Jamie) Courtney, and Gretchen Littlefield. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica, Hannah, Joann, Trey, and Dallas, as well as her great-grandchildren: Connley, Bryson, Brayden, Bentley, Sydney, and Emma. In addition, she is survived by her cousin, Robert Turner, and her sister-in-law, Vivi Anne Littlefield Johnson. Grammy's legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Bettye’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 29th, at First Baptist Church of Holly Hill. The family will receive friends afterward in the social hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
