Abram Manning Shuler, Jr.

HOLLY HILL- Abram Manning Shuler, Jr, 75, husband of Jeanette Elliott Shuler died at home on November 4, 2017, after an extended illness. Manning was preceded in death by his parents, Abram Manning Shuler, Sr and Marguerite Ouzts Shuler, as well as a granddaughter, Laura Inez Rogers. He graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Horticulture and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He served in Vietnam as a Forward Observer. Manning was a lifetime member of the Providence United Methodist Church; where he was a choir member, a Trustee, a Lay Leader, and a member of the Administrative Board. Manning was selected SC Young Farmer of the Year in 1979. He was President of the SC Peach Council and Promotion Board and served as the Director of the Orangeburg County Farm Bureau. He was appointed to the SC Wildlife and Marine Resources Commission by Governor James Edwards. He served for 30 years on the Holly Hill Academy Board of Directors as Vice Chairman for more than 10 years. He did his best to contribute to the growth of Holly Hill Academy. Manning was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also an enthusiastic turkey hunter. He spent many hours practicing on his turkey caller given to him by his friend, Zach Farmer. He loved and cherished his grandchildren and always enjoyed watching them play sports. He wanted to be at all of their games. Manning is survived by his wife, Jeanette Elliott Shuler of the home, children: Sonya S. Crider (Thomas), Elliott M. Shuler, Meg S. Rogers (Brent), and a brother, Dr. Ken Shuler (Linda) all of Holly Hill. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cindy C. Lampson (Tim) of Mauldin, SC, Kayla Crider, Ashley Crider, Charlotte Shuler, Julia Shuler, Abe Shuler, and Margo Rogers and a great grandchild Asher Lampson of Mauldin, SC, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brown, Robert McCurry, Charles Hutto, Dr. Fred Crawford, Tom Hutto, Dr. Kenneth Shuler, Jr, Dr. Kevin Shuler, and Jacob Shuler. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler James, Dennis James, David Kaczor, Bert Shuler and Jim Long. Funeral services will be held at Providence United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 3:00 with Reverend Terry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Avinger Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, November 6, 2017. The Shuler Family would like to thank all of his caregivers for of their acts of kindness.
